Most floor wear in South Florida comes from three things: sand, water and furniture. Managing those three does most of the work.
Every day
- Use mats inside and outside exterior doors to catch sand.
- Sweep or vacuum with a hard floor setting; beater bars can scratch.
- Wipe up spills promptly, especially on laminate and engineered wood.
Every week
Clean with the product the flooring manufacturer recommends. As a general rule, avoid soaking wet mops, steam mops, oil soaps and wax on modern factory finishes. Check your manufacturer's care guide, because using the wrong cleaner can affect a warranty.
Furniture
Put felt pads on furniture legs and replace them when they wear through. Lift heavy pieces instead of dragging them. Use chair mats under rolling office chairs.
Sun and humidity
Rotate rugs and use window treatments to limit fading. Keep the air conditioning running when the house is closed up for long periods; engineered wood in particular is sensitive to large swings in humidity.
When to call us
Lifting edges, persistent gaps, hollow spots or soft areas usually mean something has changed under the floor. Catching it early often keeps a repair small.
